We paid a visit to the Redwood Forest over Memorial Day weekend. We planned on going this summer, but things kept coming up. So spur of the moment we decided we might as well take advantage of the 3 day weekend. It was such a fun time for our little family to have together. We highly recommend it!!
We took a lot of cool pictures and I had to do a lot of eliminating. (Sorry if it gets a little long.)

A family picture on our first hike at Lady Johnson Grove.

We started out South at where else, an Elk Meadow. Ben saw this on the map and had to be SURE we made it past there. These guys were right on the side of the road.

Back to Lady Johnson Grove. The clouds hung around for awhile, but beautiful little hike. 1 Mile loop, perfect! It was fun just looking up at these trees, they were so tall!!

Inside a hollow tree burned by fire, way cool lookin'!!

Happy baby, lovin' the hike (and fell right to sleep when she got tired.)

This is a common way to find Carlie!

'Big Tree Wayside'. This is the biggest tree around. Cool spot!! Can't miss this!

Who are those little people lost in those big trees?
This might give you an idea of how huge the trees are!

On our way back North we took this scenic drive along the Coast. This is at one of the little lookouts spots, Beautiful!!

You can't go to the Redwood Forest and not drive through the tree. Ashton was really looking forward to this!!

At the Trees of Mystery, the talking Paul Bunyan and his Ox. This guy was funny to sit and watch for a little bit. People weren't expecting him to talk.
Carlie is on the left boot and Clay and Ash on the right. (you can barely see them.)

Another good shot of tall, tall trees!
These next few are at a place called Stout Grove. You definitely don't want to miss this. The drive back there was gorgeous and the another perfect little hike.

They loved throwing rocks off this bridge!

Little monkeys! We started walking away and the boys climbed up there!

We were walking down the trail and Ben spotted this tree. Uh, a little hard to miss! It was just HUGE!!
At the coast....

This is a cool lighthouse we went to tour but it was closed. You can only get there when the tide is out, the little path behind the camera-woman has water on either side. Thank goodness we didn't get trapped!

Ave was such a trooper the whole trip!! She loved looking over Dad's shoulder at all his findings.
We walked around looking at tide pools and climbing big rocks and the kids collected little rocks they found.

A cool bench we found climbing up these rocks.

Are you serious?!! We were at the top of some rocks, Carlie had just wet her pants and suddenly Ashton had to go. That's the spot he chose.
(That's the lighthouse in the background.)

We also had a rock throwing contest from up here.

This is the most any of us got in the water. Did I mention we were in California. I was hoping for the warm sandy beaches. Too close to Oregon I guess.

And, last but not least, Averie's first time swimmin! At the hotel, she got her first swim-suit for the trip. She loved it!

Love the Redwoods! We went about 9 years ago and are going again this summer. We will have to hit all of the places you guys did! Where did you stay?
Great pictures! Your kids are so cute! Good job on the quilt, it is beautiful!
